Bowers & Wilkins' new 700 series has enough speakers for everyone
Sep 6th 2017, 13:40, by Simon Osborne-Walker

Replacing the popular CM range, B&W's new 700 series features trickledown tech from the company's flagships, and covers a vast range of sizes and prices.

Bowers & Wilkins has just killed off the mighty CM series – but replaced it with the truly comprehensive line-up of new 700-series speakers.

The British hi-fi company has trickled down some of the features of the high-end 800 Diamond series, such as the Continuum driver cones. Continuum is a woven material developed by B&W, and promises to distort less than the Kevlar used on the outgoing CM models.

Also brought over from the 800s is the tweeter-on-top design used for the range-topping 702 S2 floorstander and 705 S2 standmounter. Both models have their 1-inch carbon dome tweeter fitted in a decoupled aluminium body that sits atop the main wooden cabinet.

The full range includes three standmounted models: the 705 S2 (£1798/$2500), 706 S2 (£1098/$1800) and 707 S2 (£798/$1200). There are also three floorstanders: the 702 S2 (£3298/$4500), 703 S2 (£2398/$3500) and 704 S2 (£1998/$2500).

For creating a home cinema package, there are also two sizes of centre speaker: the HTM71 S2 (£899/$1350) and smaller HTM72 S2 (£599/$800).

A brand-new single-driver subwoofer, the DB4S (£1350/$1600), with 1000W of amplification and a digital preamp, has also gone on sale to accompany the range.

All of the new Bowers & Wilkins 700 series, as well as the sub, are available in gloss black, satin white or rosenut wood finishes.
