NBA 2K18 is out today! We've been playing the hell out of it and have an early review-in-progress for you, which you can read by clicking the link. First impressions are excellent, with 2K and Visual Concepts potentially creating the best and deepest sports game ever. Can NBA Live 18 keep up? We won't know until that game arrives, but until then, we've rounded up everything you need to know about both titles below.
NBA Live 18 is coming to PS4 and Xbox One on September 15.
NBA 2K18 is coming on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on September 19. It's also available digitally on Nintendo Switch on the same day, with the retail version arriving a month later.
It's clear from trailers and screenshots that they're both great looking games, boasting realistic player models and environments true to their real life counterparts.
NBA Live 18 runs on the Ignite graphics engine, the technology used to power FIFA before its switch over to Frostbite. Despite the engine's age, it still produces the convincing characters and courts required for a truly immersive basketball sim.
NBA 2K has always been the cream of the crop in terms of visual prowess, and 2K18 appears to be no different. Each player is incredibly lifelike, with sweat visibly dripping from pores as they dribble across the court. It's a real looker, and should take great advantage of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
Some of NBA 2K18's planned modes include MyGM, MyCareer and MyLeague alongside the usual range of exhibition options for local and online multiplayer. MyTeam also makes a welcome return, a mode based around compiling a virtual trading card collection of your top players and teams.
NBA Live 18 will see the return of many familiar faces such as Dynasty Mode, Rising Star and Ultimate Team. An all new solo campaign known as The One has also been confirmed. This new mode will see you create your own avatar, make vital career decisions and rise through the NBA ranks.
