One of the finest Google-based devices of the last few years could be in line for a speedy update to the new Android Oreo operating system.

According to an upgrade schedule posted by Canadian network Rodgers (via Ubergizmo), the Google Nexus 6P will receive Android 8.0 on September 11.

The 2015 Nexus 6P, made by Huawei, is one of the few Google-branded devices earmarked for the update.

The Nexus 5X, released along the 6P and built by LG, is also in line for the release, but we've had no word on potential dates yet.

First in the queue for Android Oreo, seeded to manufacturers last month, are the Pixel and Pixel XL devices, released last October.

Some networks, such as Verizon in the United States, are already rolling out the update for Pixel and Pixel XL users.

The Pixel C tablet and the Nexus Player will also get Android Oreo sometime soon, according to Google.

If you can't wait for the update to hit your eligible Google-based device, you can download the OTA images for Android Oreo manually. However, unless you're au fait with the platform tools, it's not something we'd recommend.

Those who were running preview versions of the software should have received the final version by now too.

Android O introduces native picture-in-picture support, background optimisations to improve battery life and notification channels that enable users to group alerts together.

Adaptive app icons, an improved camera app and better audio quality are also among the headline features within the annual update.
