Motorola outs Android Oreo update schedule — is your phone included? Sep 14th 2017, 21:34, by Chris Smith Lenovo-owned smartphone giant Motorola is planning to start Android 8.0 Oreo updates this autumn. The firm has announced a total of 12 handsets are inline for the cookie-themed operating system, released at the end of the summer. "We're happy to confirm Android 8.0 Oreo will be joining our fleet of Motorola smartphones, starting this fall," the company wrote. All four handsets in the Moto G5 range will get Oreo (G5, G5 Plus, G5S, G5S Plus). The Moto Z2 Force and the Moto Z2 Play is also in line for some Oreo action, along with the Moto X4. Related: Best Android phones Going a little further back, the original Moto Z range (Z, Z Droid, Z Play, Z Play Droid) is also earmarked for the Android Oreo update. That's probably a little unexpected given the Z range is now more than a year old. Good news and bad With the good news, there's also bad tidings for recent Motorola phone owners. The Moto E4, released earlier this year, is absent from the list, as is the 2016's Moto G4 range. Unfortunately, the firm isn't committing to which phones are getting the update first. By saying "starting this fall" the company is giving itself a lot of leeway. Honestly, we'd be surprised to see many of the 12 handsets up and running on Oreo before the end of the year. The latest major Android release includes picture-in-picture, limits on what apps can do in the background, notification channels and many more significant enhancements.
