Netflix HDR comes to another big name handset Sep 4th 2017, 17:18, by Chris Smith The brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is the latest smartphone to support Netflix HDR streaming. The Netflix support site now lists the stunning handset among the devices able to access select content via the eye-popping video standard. The Galaxy Note 8 officially beats this years Galaxy S8 range to the punch, according to Netflix (via SamMobile). The Note 8 supports the HDR 10 standard and, thanks to the peak brightness of 1,200 nits, the 6.3-inch quad-HD+ AMOLED phone might be the best exponent of the tech yet. Related: How to find HDR content on Netflix  It joins the LG V30, Sony Xperia XZ Premium and the Sony XZ1. Elsewhere, the Dolby Vision standard brings support for the LG G6. Why Netflix has avoided the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ range until now remains to be seen, but this is great news for those thinking of snapping up its larger stablemate. Netflix is gradually adding support for big name handsets, so we can expect many more to follow heading into 2018. Whether the iPhone 8 will arrive packing an HDR display support remains to be seen, but we've had no inkling from recent speculation. The streaming giant is continually adding to its HDR repertoire, with most of its original shows coming in 4K and a selection of those shows available in High Dynamic Range.
